Theorem · version 2

A double cover has total length twice the edge count

Statement

If C is a cycle double cover of a finite graph G, then the sum of the lengths of the cycles in C, with multiplicity, equals 2∣E(G)∣2|E(G)|.

Assumptions

  • Assume a cycle double cover is given.
  • Cycle length counts edges and repeated cycles count repeatedly.

Scope

A counting consequence of a cover, not a proof that every bridgeless graph admits one.
