Theorem · version 1

A quartic witness in three real variables

Statement

Set Z=(X1+iX2)/2Z=(X_1+iX_2)/\sqrt2, W=(X1−iX2)/2W=(X_1-iX_2)/\sqrt2, P3=(1+Z)(W−2+Z2T2)P_3=(1+Z)\left(W-\frac{2+Z}{2}T^2\right) and Q3=ZQ_3=Z. For every integer m ≥ 1, E[P3m]=0\mathbb E[P_3^m]=0 and E[Q3P3m]=m!\mathbb E[Q_3P_3^m]=m!.

Assumptions

  • X₁, X₂ and T are independent standard real Gaussians.
  • Z and W are conjugate coordinates, not independent complex Gaussian variables.

Scope

Total degree four in three real coordinates. Ignoring extra coordinates gives failure for every n ≥ 3.
