Theorem · version 1

Global weak solutions (Leray)

Statement

In three space dimensions, the Navier–Stokes equations always have a weak solution (p, u) with suitable growth properties.

Assumptions

  • Three space dimensions.
  • Weak solutions satisfy the equations in the integrated sense (12)–(13) of the official description.

Scope

Weak solutions need not be smooth, and their uniqueness is not known.
